Ladder tournament

Throughout the year we will be running a ladder tournament. The ladder is an on-going tournament open to all club members, independent of their standard. It allows all players to try and reach the top, giving new players an opportunity to play players slightly better than themselves (and hopefully learn and improve!)

Rules of the Ladder

  • Anyone wishing to join will be added to the bottom of the ladder
  • Ladder matches will be the best of 5 games, each game up to 11 points (reduced to 3 games if it is really busy)
  • Each person can initiate up to 3 ladder matches per session
  • All players must accept challenges (regardless of how many ladder matches you have played that session)
  • If a player refuses a valid challenge, then they will be moved below the challenger (effectively a loss)
  • You can only play the same person once in a session (counting as a ladder match)
  • Players may challenge anyone up to and including five positions above themselves in the ladder. If none of these people are present, you can challenge the next highest person instead
  • If the challenger wins the match, then the winner will take the losers place, with the loser and all intermediate players moving down one place. Otherwise their positions remain unchanged
  • If multiple players would be tied on points the player who has played more games stays above
  • You must write down the result of the match - for it to count and be put into the ladder. Even if the challenger loses, please record the game as participation can make a difference!
  • An updated ladder will regularly be put on the website and brought along to sessions
  • If any player does not play for a month they will be moved to the bottom of the ladder
  • If there are any disputes the committee decision will be final
